What is your most memorable wine or wine and food experience?
At a Wine and Cheese Social, following a Vinovan Competition, a guest brought a 1953 Sauterne. That wine offered the most extraordinary, complex, unexpected aromas and flavours I have ever experienced.
What wines have you always wanted to try but haven’t? What is your favorite vineyard? Region?
I am loyal to the Okanagan region where they are making world-class wines. While there are so many wonderful vineyards, one that truly stands out for me is SpearHead Winery located in southeast Kelowna. They make fabulous Burgundy-style wines, especially Pinot Noir which is their specialty. This, of course, leads me to wanting to try more French Burgundies and to visit that region.
What event or experience started your journey in wine?
Most people will be horrified, but my wine journey started with Retsina in a Greek restaurant. At the tender age of about 22, and a beer drinker and beer maker, I could not believe wine could be so varied and interesting.
